Client: English Cities Fund
Location: Wakefield Westgate
Cost: £2.1m
Area: N/A
Project Type: Public Realm
Commission to design a new public space (Burgage Square) and wider public realm (The Emerald Ring) as part of the new mixed quarter at Wakefield Westgate’s 'Merchant Gate'. The proposed building footprint and new spaces were influenced by the grain of the ancient 'burgage plots' while material palettes carefully ‘stitched’ contemporary public realm into the historic town centre and station area.
Infrastructure works included the coordination of combined service corridors, street greening integrated with seating and shared tree pit planting.
