XQLA were appointed alongside Pozzoni Architects to develop proposals in conjunction with the community to transform the environmental quality of their neighbourhood. Demolition of extensive areas of under-used garages and outbuildings has allowed the wholesale remodelling of streetscapes which now provide clear definition of public and private space, and a quality setting for the refurbished housing stock.
The proud history of the neighbourhood has been expressed through design detailing and bespoke, sculptural play installations delivered by Handspring Design. Habitat creation has been used as a lever to animate and structure the extensive public open spaces and to enrich the visual character of streets, both of which are designed to improve the health and wellbeing of residents and wildlife alike.
The project has been a resounding success attracting new residents to a previously failing housing estate following completion.
