Client: Grasscroft Property / Seddon Homes
Location: Land west of Broadway Road, Oldham, Greater Manchester
Cost: £100m
Area: 80 hectares
Project Type: Regeneration
This £100M employment led mixed use scheme on a 80ha site in the heart of Oldham, Greater Manchester, will provide up to 500 new homes, 23ha commercial and industrial space along with 8ha of new city scale public open space provision. The practice shaped a compelling landscape and 'healing’ vision from the existing damaged resource including consideration of the setting of Foxdenton Hall and Park. Early input from the practice, through provision of EIA services, steered the placement of development areas and secured the integrity of the landscape structure of value within design parameters.
The result is a proposal that respects its existing landscape, heritage and social setting, and supports retention and enhancement of key site capital balanced with providing much needed housing and employment opportunities alongside revitalised public open space. The scheme achieved planning approval in 2014 with infrastructure works and the first phase now developing rapidly on site.
