Brighouse Town Board commissioned a multidisciplinary team, lead by XQLA, in September 2019 to collaboratively shape a ‘Vision Masterplan’ for the market town; with the core aims of: ‘Sustainable’: Protecting and improving spaces with the future in mind/ ‘Attractive’: A desirable place to live, work and visit with distinctive character; and ‘Healthy’: Delivering walkable and cyclable places with clean fresh air to breathe adhering to the Healthy Streets approach and Green Street Principles. Through a series of Visioning workshops, utilising PlacesShaper and other consultation techniques, the team supported stakeholders to define their aspirations with objectives and priorities specific to the nature of this quirky Pennine town.
The output is a unique definition of the place, corroborated by a broader range of stakeholders including the town BID, Calderdale Officers and the wider public. The Vision is expected to be developed in further detail in the coming year, with £21M programme of work to be delivered through the Town Deal Fund.
