XQLA have been supporting Calderdale Council Major Project’s team with the development of this project since 2019. From the initial feasibility brief through to the shaping of a town centre Vision and subsequent funding applications, the practice has been committed to helping stakeholders achieve their aspiration for the renewal of their town centre focused on delivering welcoming public realm which will support a thriving local community and enhanced business activity into the future.

Working alongside Turner & Townsend project managers and PJA Engineers, we are appointed as Lead Designers to assist with the delivery of £16.5M worth of investment which will see the wholesale transformation of this Pennine town streets and squares. At the centre of the proposals are significant highway infrastructure changes (the creation of east and west traffic cells,) which will facilitate the civilising of streets, the creation of SuDs gardens and places to meet and socialise through the design of attractive and generous public realm. The scheme will also support modal shift to low carbon (pedestrian and cyclist) alternatives. As part of a comprehensive package of physical and economic development interventions, it is set to reinvigorate the quality and confidence of the town centre for years to come.
