Following public consultation in the summer of 2020 the masterplan strategy was endorsed by the local community and Brighouse Town Deal Board. Working with JBA consulting and Steer Economic Development we then supported the council in the formation of their Town Investment Plan (TIP). The masterplan provided the cornerstone for the spatial interventions put forward in the TIP. Central government confirmed the funding award in February 2022 and XQLA have subsequently been instructed to lead the public realm design, supported by PJA Engineers, within the multidisciplinary team appointed to deliver £19M worth of investment for the wholesale transformation of this Pennine town. At the centre of the proposals are significant highway infrastructure changes (the creation of east and west traffic cells,) which will facilitate the civilising of streets, the creation of SuDs gardens and places to create an attractive and generous public realm. The scheme will also support modal shift to low carbon (pedestrian and cyclist) alternatives. As part of a comprehensive package of physical and economic development interventions, it is set to reinvigorate the quality and confidence of the town retail and leisure offer
