Project Type: Public Realm / Temporary
Following the completion of the Vision Masterplan for Brighouse, XQLA were appointed as lead consultants by Calderdale Council to take forward interventions that would showcase the ambitions of the masterplan, following the Council’s succesful bid for £750,000 in Accelerator funding from Central Government. Capitalising on the strengths of Brighouse’s manufacturing heritage, we are working with the local supply chain to provide a series of footpath extensions and parklets that will create enhanced social spaces and greening around the town centre. In addition to providing safer social distancing during the COVID-19 recovery, these interventions are intended to increase footfall and dwell times in the town centre, create a greener and healthier environment, all whilst supporting retail and mobility. The project acts as an initial testing ground for the objectives set out in the masterplan and Town Investment plan regarding improved walking and cycling environments. Our interventions will provide early insights that will inform the delivery of our longer term projects, allowing us to learn valuable lessons on the environmental, economic and wellbeing benefits of greener, healthier and more accessible streets. The project also includes the delivery of bespoke art interventions as part of an integrated approach to place making.
