The practice was commissioned in April 2014 to, alongside an emerging architectural response to the site, develop a strategy for the external design of this unique residential property positioned in open countryside. The overarching concepts for the scheme centre of the notion that the ‘exposed’ element of the building sits in the landscape, perched at a pivot point (and therefore likened to a natural Rocking Stone) between the coarse upland pastureland of the West Pennine hills and the tight scrubland associated with the Broadhead Brookvalley. Perched near the head of the valley the first floor ‘pod’ element of the building is likened to an erratic; a foreign yet beautiful object deposited gently into the landscape from a far away land. The scheme was completed on site in Autumn 2018
