XQLA have been part of the multidisciplinary team supporting the progress of this strategic housing allocation for 2,000 homes in the South Ribble District Council Local Plan for over 10 years. Early site work established the principles of retaining the existing network of lanes and routeways within the edge of settlement allocation for sustainable movement and as the ‘backbone’ for the organisation of public open space at the centre of the Masterplan Vision which focuses on the delivery of Garden Village Principles. The Green Infrastructure (GI) Vision and Landscape Strategy went further to secure the retention and integration of hedgerows and the delivery of ecological ‘biocorridors’ within the structure of the development with connections to broader GI resource. The design of public open space within the masterplan framework, of appropriate typology and location, to meet green space and play standards was also integral to the approach. As was the need to optimise liveability and useability, for example micro-climate and accessibility, and deliver multifunctional designs for sustainable drainage purposes.
The Masterplan Vision, Infrastructure Delivery Plan and Design Codes now form a comprehensive strategy for the delivery of the project, which is at an advanced stage in the planning process.
